Orlando and Miami, Florida

I travelled with my husband and children to Orlando, Florida - which is a great place and offers so much to do.

We stayed for seven nights so opted for a 2-bedroom suite at Staybridge Suites, Lake Buena Vista which gave us lots of space for our extended stay.

Lake Buena Vista is a great location for the four main Disney parks - Magic Kingdom Park, Epcot, Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park and Disney’s Hollywood Studios plus there are additional Water Parks. Our resort offered free transfers to the Disney parks.

Car hire was required to get to Universal Studios or Universal Islands of Adventure, which are two separate parks and which we found better for our kids aged 8yo and 10yo. We needed a full day at each Universal park whereas half a day at the Disney parks was enough (we really only did the fast rides when there).

A day trip to the Kennedy Space Center is a must. We booked an organised day tour for this. It was a long day but so worth it.

We then drove from Orlando to Miami and stayed at the Miami Beach Hotel, a beach front hotel on the southern end of Miami.

Miami covers a huge area so car hire is a must. It was a great place to slow down the pace after a week at Orlando flat out at the theme parks! Cocktails on the beach at sunset are a must do experience for the grown ups, while a highlight for the kids was a visit to Everglades Holiday Park, 'Home of Gator Boys'! We enjoyed an airboat ride, the Gator Boys show and alligator encounter.
